Isn't it a plus point to be able to speak different languages?

Russians don't seem to think so. Even if they do speak, they keep their mouth zipped up. Back in those days when we first arrived in Moscow.. we didn't speak a word of Russian and dealing with the locals was a killer. They yelled and yelled at us, as though the louder they repeated it, we would understand.

Dumbasses.

But then again, there are always a number of folks who are pro-West and then there are the New Russians (modern generation who dislike the rowdiness, ruthless Russian ways). They are more willing to speak in other languages. Still, not everyone on the street you ask for help, say, direction would understand/respond to your cry in English. If you're smart enough to pick a younger person, you might be in luck.

My boyfriend's colleague, Umut wanted to learn English so I'm coaching him on Tuesdays and Fridays. We started a couple of weeks ago though. I realised I didn't blog about him yet. Yesterday, he managed to learn Present and Future Tense in less than 1 1/2 hours. I ain't a professional teacher, of course but I'm glad he's a quick learner :)

Last year, I tried to look for a temp job by teaching English. Joanna has been doing it to support her life in Moscow, tuition fees and all.. it's really good money. 1000pyb/hour is about RM105 (US$28.90).

Imagine 5 students, 2 times a week and do the math for each month (no tax!). No sweat for RM 4,175 (US$1,160) at minimum rate. Unfortunately, at these troubled times, Joanna herself has lost a few students. Companies are either closing down or firing employees.. like hell they'd fork out extra to learn English!

Ohhhhh, well..
