Today is 1st of May, celebrated worldwide as a public holiday but for Turkey, it was only passed officially this year. In the previous years, it was considered illegal to rest on this day. Labour unions and non-governmental organizations would demonstrate because of the shootings in 1977 at Taksim Square.
Something to do with events gone sour back then *shrugs*.
Hahahahahaa I'm not complaining. Two weeks in a row with extra day off ;) Tolga and I went to Istinye Park Shopping Mall around noon. Weather was fine, the sun's heating up and I smell spring coming. I must say it's one of the best spontaneous outings ever.
Art exhibition. Checked.
Enjoy a cup of coffee. Checked.
Watched the premiere of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Checked!
We walked to the centre court in search of Starbucks really, but the display of artwork caught our attention. We decided to stop by for a look-see and it turned out to be an exhibition held by a local Art School featuring Wire Art and Ebru (Turkish marble painting).
Tulips of Turkey
I've posed with Turkish flag more than I ever did with a Malaysian :P
It was very interesting to watch the artist paint an Ebru art. It existed in the 16th century Ottoman-Turkish era and is believed to have originated from Iran or China through the Silk Road. The medium used for Ebru painting consists gum tragacanth, water and other plant extract. A few drops of ink would be sprinkled onto the surface and the artist skillfully forms patterns before transfering the floating picture onto the paper.
This art requires much patience and knowledge of traditional Turkish art.

We failed to look for Starbucks but Caffè Nero was very inviting. The last time I had coffee here was a couple of years ago in UK. I'm not sure if Malaysia opened any. I had my usual Caffè Latte while Tolga had his White Chocolate Mocha. You gotta love the flexibility of how Turkish people handle their business. Especially the employees. They are friendly and cheerful as though they're got their dream jobs.
I didn't feel like having anything to eat but I the sample cake on the counter looked yums. Voila. I got a plateful of their New Flavour just like that.
Hahahahaha like this barista, he's even smiling slightly because he knew I was focused on him

The movie was grrrrrrrreat. We loved the action-packtion X-Men Origins: Wolverine even though the ratings are pretty low. I give it an easy 4.5 stars out of 5! Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is good but I gotta say, Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth is perfect. I'd looooove to have him as my kittycat LOL
I just realised it's damn expensive to watch movies in the cinema here. We paid 13TL/RM29 per ticket and that was student price!
Good thing it was worth the dough ;)
