The Korean Kid

It had been fun giving English classes to Seong Jin, the 5-year-old child to the expatriate family living here in Moscow. Unfortunately, today was our last day. I simply don't have the time anymore. It's sad because he had become rather fond of me and Mrs.Kim tells me that his son was always looking forward to my visit.

I remember my first experience with him. He cried for 1/2 hour, holding on to his Mum like a baby monkey. Thank God I'm such a patient person, otherwise I would break down too. After he understood that I was to become his teacher, it wasn't difficult to work with him. He showed me his favourite toys and stuff.

Stickers worked better than candies. I bribed him with it :P

"You want to take my picture, ya?"

His parents are concerned about his education. You can tell by the number of books he's got at a tender age. Several shelves of Korean books from their homeland and English books from UK. Seong Jin attends International British School in the mornings. His English is okay and my job is to help him improve it.

I mean, my job was to help improve it.

I can foresee that his upbringing is a healthy one. This child will most likely to excel later in his life. He listens, shares and learns quickly. And well-mannered too. It's normal that he has the attention span of a goldfish. Being the only child, I think at times he's lonely with his toys.

I discovered that my patience has been extended to a higher level. Kids definitely aren't easy. Hats off to the kindergarden teachers!

well, good experience with kids. Next time when you have your own, you'd know how to handle them - you'd be a good mom - i think :)

teaching one kid is ok, but wait till u have to teach a few kids of different nationalities (5 of them is enough to keep you extremely busy) and different characters - will be a real challenge ...hehehe

But they all seem to have one thing that catches their attention. I bring this kid stickers and say to him that he will only get them if he behaves.

Voila. Obedience kicks in.
